Best Super Bowl Ever? Not hardly with all those penalites. Best 4th quarter ever? Now I can go with that!

What an amazing 4th quarter by a valiant Arizona ballclub with 2 big touchdowns by Larry Fitzgerald. But when it was all said and done, “Big” Ben Rothlesburger and Santonio Holmes made play after play in the final 2 minute drive to pull out a 27-23 win. This was one of those games where you couldn’t point blame on any player or unit, big time players just made big time plays and those are the type of games I love.

Kudos to the Arizona Cardinals for coming 2 minutes from becoming the most unheralded and surprising World Champion from the 4 major sports ever. Also congrats to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the model franchise in ALL of sports. They do it the right way, and the reason the Cardinals can compete, is because Head Coach Paul Wisenhunt and Offensive Coordinator Russ Grimm were members of the staff of the previous Steelers title team in 2005. They know what it takes to compete day in and day out and they know how to compete with class.

Now, on to my new favorite passion, those Caps. I mean, what more can I say? We took two TOUGH losses after the AS break to Ottawa and Boston and then had to welcome the defending champion Detroit Red Wings and a rematch with Ottawa in back to back MATINEES!! Needless to say, Ovie and the boys handled business in both with Ovie contributing with 5 goals (2 vs Detroit and a hat trick vs Ottawa) and Mike Green making one of the sickest passes Ive ever seen!!!

Beating Detroit was great, because thats the team that we aspire to be…the best of the best. That franchise is where this team SHOULD want to be, a perennial Stanley Cup contender. And with the talent this team has, it very well can be. The Ottawa win showed me that even after winning a huge game they could come back the next day and give maximum effort. Sky’s the Limit for this team…Stanley Cup or Bust!

Washington Capitals

Here in Washington, there is a team that is truly a contender for the League Championship, has the best player in the game, and has one of the best young cores in the game…that team of course is our own Washington Capitals.

Everybody pretty much knows about Alex Ovechkin aka The Great 8….but if your only looking at Ovechkin, your missing out on the other great young talent that GM George McPhee has assembled and reigning Coach of the Year Bruce Boudreau has cultivated into the best young team in the game today.

With players such as Alex Semin, Mike Green, Tomas Fleschmann, Nichlas Backstrom and Boyd Gordon (along with future stars such as Karl Alzner and Chris Bourque who is the son of Hall of Famer Raymond Bourque). Then you add wiley veterans such as Victor Kozlov, Matt Bradley, enforcer Donald Brashear and continued improving goaltending by the tandem of Jose Theodore and Brent Johnson, you have a team that should go far in the playoffs this season.

There have been nagging injuries throughout the roster, but the 30-15-3 record is the best record at this portion of the season in team history. They play a brand of fast paced/exciting hockey that have brought fans back to the Verizon Center in record numbers. I for one will attend more games in the coming months so I can “ROCK THE RED”!

The NFL’s Final Four…

Is it me, or am I the only person in the United States SICKUV Heinz Field….Im sickuv the Steelers losing AFC Title games there. I just dont get it…I dont dislike them, but its something about them I just dont like.

They have an African American Coach in Mike Tomlin, a pretty good running game, AWESOME defense, and a tough QB….I SHOULD like them right?? I just dont….

But the #1 story in this postseason has been those Arizona Cardinals…Everybody knows about Larry Fitz, Edge, Kurt Warner and the crew but Im giving a shout out to their defense for coming ready to play and bringin their hard hats both games so far. The Defensive Coordinator Clancy Pendergast and that whole coaching staff deserves some praise for having these guys in position to make the plays they have made.

Alex Ovechkins 63rd Goal vs the Carolina Hurricanes….the night Diego “offically” became a Hockey Fan. It was the 1st night of the “Rock The Red” campaign for the amazing stretch run to make the playoffs and because of my friend Kareem, my homie Silas and I had the pleasure of sitting in basically the 5th or 6th row directly behind Ovechkin when he made the goal…..what a TREMENDOUS display of skill there….

…my homie and I are actually in this picture, we are the ones that look like we dont belong LOL but no matter…it was an awesome game, even better crowd and the sole reason Im a Caps Junkie right now.

Opening Night @ Nationals Park. It was COLD AS SHIT…I was ready to go by the bottom of the 7th until my boy Lil George (who has his own blog by the way http://everydayismarch.wordpress.com) said “Man…Im telling you…Zimm is gonna hit a walkoff watch!!!” And DAMNIT if it didnt happen!!!! LOL

Mario Chalmers hits one of the most clutch jumpers I have ever witnessed. A 3-pointer to send the National Championship Game in OT. My girlfriend was pregnant at the time, I had to run out of the bedroom to scream and Im not even a fan of either team. It was that clutch…one of the reasons I love sports.

Dwyane Wade’s hustle and Alley-oop to Kobe Bryant vs Greece was one of the greatest bang-bang plays I have ever seen. All the skill and athleticism everyone knew we had over the other countries was showed on this one play…the great defense/hustle/pinpoint passing by Wade and the sheer power/vertical jump by The Bean….amazing….

The Tampa Bay Rays and the run they made through the 2008 MLB season was nothing short of amazing….I was rooting for them till the end.

The 2008 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies in Canton, Ohio. The greatest moment in my Redskins Fandom….I recorded this clip here and although very muffled, you can hear the love we, as Redskins Nation showed Art Monk (and Darrell Green) earlier. It was a fitting tribute to two great men. I should recommend everyone take a trip to Canton if they have the opportunity….especially if you have a son.

The above quote was from one of my best friends on Earth on Draft Night 2006. Me being a Kentucky fan, was FURIOUS and told him “Just watch…..” I mean, that’s all I COULD say at that point. I told him 3 things that he will see:

1. He will “D” you up 94 feet
2. He has GREAT hands
3. He is a leader…..

And right now, he’s doing all of those things AND more for the 27-2 Boston Celtics. Fans and Experts are actually saying this could be an All-Star season for the 24 year old. With averages of 11.5 pts, 5 boards, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game don’t necessarily jump out off the pages when you read them. But when you watch a game, or even watching highlights on NBATV or SportsCenter, you can see his evolving. Whether its breaking my boy Deron Williams down for EASY buckets in the 4th quarter, or just making the easy cut for the layup and things of that nature that SHOULD be common place but aren’t in today’s game. Mark my words, this kid will be mentioned among the great point guards in this league soon enough. It was a reason Kevin McHale wanted him in the KG Trade but Danny Ainge said NO!

In his 3rd year, Aldridge has finally been recognized as a great young talent, and his shapey is indicative of his productivity. Nice job LA!

Leon Powe – PF/C

A surprise selection to the team, but the Shapeup Specialists I’ve talked to seem to love his determination and enthusiasm. His shapeup is a testament to that….

Kevin Love – C

Another Rookie 1st timer and only Caucasian Shapey to make the roster.

JR Smith – SG

J R’s roster slot isn’t safe…there are a couple of guys biting his at his hairline like some sharp ass clippers…will he be mid-season trade bait???

Danny is a 1st time Shapey All Star and 1st ballot Hall of Famer for the Wave Cap Hall of Fame…one of my favorite players in the league, should become a starter on the team for years to come.

Dwyane Wade – SG/PG

Dwayne’s comeback from his tough injury plagued 2007 season with that performance in Beijing and so far in 2008 certainly gives him the right to be a member of this team and he is a couple of solid seasons away from his eventual induction into the Wave Cap Hall of Fame.

We will announce our 2008-09 Non-Shapeup All Stars during the upcoming Christmas Holiday….

As a fellow Lightskinned African American, I had to include “Mr Thug” on the team simply because he was such a punk lookin dude at UCLA….he has done a complete 180 in my eyes and the eyes of the keenest Shapeup Specialists. Do not disappoint us Matthew.

Antwan Jamison – PF

As much as we hate the fact he doesn’t play a lick of defense, he makes sure he is ultra-crisp at all times…he deserves credit for that.

Marcus Camby – C

Another veteran of this team being as this is his 7th year as the Starting Center…..time is ticking on his illustrious career…but for now, he is still the starter at center.

The ONLY thing good coming from the Redskins camp this week is the fact that we got 4 selections into this years Pro Bowl. Chris Cooley, Clinton Portis, Chris Samuels return and Mike Sellers is going to Hawaii for the 1st time….good for them.

Everybody knows about OUR (yes, I joined the bandwagon) MVP Alex Ovechkin…but some experts say that Alex Semin is the more talented player, which is amazing to me honestly. I’m no hockey expert by any means, but this kid can become just as great as Ovie.

Let me say something 1st off the bat, I may hate the usual dominate teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, Duke etc…but dammit I LOVE to see someone do something GREAT. Its even better when it comes virtually out of nowhere. Thats where we are as fans watching this kid Stephen Curry right now and that one thing he does GREATER than anyone in College Basketball today is SCORE!!!!!

How can you NOT enjoy this??? I mean REALLY!?!!? In the last 2 games vs NC State and West Virginia, he took OVER the games late and made big shot after big shot to pull of 2 huge victories for the formerly unknown school in North Carolina. I mean who had heard of Davidson until a young frosh almost singlehandedly defeated Maryland in the 2007 NCAA Tourney with a 3 point barrage that had all Terp Fans pissing in their proverbial pants.

I dont really give a rats ass about what he cant do…right now, what he CAN do is SHOOT BETTER, SCORE BETTER, than any player in the game today. And so what he shoots more than the average player? I dont want any other player on that team shooting when the game matters anyway…he’s the reason we are watching them (and yes, we ARE watching) and the reason that they are now America’s Team.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT DUKE GAME!!!!!!!
